Health Counseling; the Path to Healthy Living Eliminate Cravings and Binges
What is a health counselor?
The health counselor provides an effective, individualized program that supports your health and life goals through food, nutrition and lifestyle changes. The approach is holistic recognizing that our relationships, physical activity, career and spirituality are as vital to our good health as the foods we eat. The health counselor supports you on your path to healthy living with concrete and practical ways to implement the desired food and lifestyle changes through cooking classes, books, CD’s and other supportive materials.
Why health counselors?
Our health care system needs help. There is no question that modern medicine is amazing in its ability to save lives. With the wonderful advances in medical technology, we should be a healthier society, right? Well then, why are Americans so unhealthy? Why do 125 million Americans suffer from chronic health problems? Physicians are busier than ever and often overwhelmed as we become more reliant upon them “to keep us healthy”. It’s estimated that 3.4 billion prescriptions were written last year. That’s about one dozen prescriptions for every man, woman and child in this country! Many of today’s chronic health concerns including obesity, diabetes, depression and insomnia are related to the food we eat and to the lifestyles we live. By taking better care of ourselves, we can truly enjoy better health.
Who benefits?
While anyone interested in improving their health can benefit from working with a health counselor, there are three groups of women who are at the “top of the list”.
First, aging baby-boomers are facing new health challenges now that they are approaching their fifties, sixties and beyond. It’s time to start a revolution of how we age. With “retirement” lasting a possible thirty years, good health is a long-term investment and should be an essential part of our planning for the future. The time for healthy aging is now!
Let’s not forget about “superwoman”. You are the caregiver who puts everyone’s needs before your own. It’s time to restore the balance in your life. Self-care without guilt, it’s essential to healthy living. Everyone will benefit and thank you for it.
Finally, so many of us have had trouble reaching our ideal weight. Being overweight puts us at risk for diabetes and a host of other health problems. Working with a health counselor can really help you achieve what has been this illusive goal.
