By Eddie Nasr
Let me introduce myself. I am Eddie Nasr, a Master Jeweler, and have been in the jewelry business for over 25 years. My store has been located at the Independence Mall in Kingston for the past seventeen years. I specialize in creating customized unique jewelry for my customers. I can custom craft, by hand, a jewelry piece from your ideas drawn on a piece of paper, verbalized to me, or from a picture. I can restyle any piece you own and if you wish, I can recreate it into a new design. All of our work is done on premise. We can remount and repair jewelry while you wait or shop in the mall.
We also offer a lifetime guarantee, at no extra charge, on all jewelry bought at our store less normal wear and tear on the piece. We offer financing with a major bank. You can open a credit card account in minutes that may offer free financing for up to 3 years. We do accept all credit cards.
Our one carat (or larger) diamonds are certified by the EGL USA (European Gemological Laboratory) and GIA (Gemological Institute of America), the world’s most trusted diamond laboratories. EGL USA and GIA have labs in North America and are noted diamond researchers. EGL USA diamond certificate numbers are prefixed by either “US” or “CA” to insure it was issued by an EGL USA group. Certification is often thought of as the 5th “C” of diamond and gem purchases.
With the coming of the holiday season, diamonds, gems and jewelry are often given as gifts. Our staff of ten will sit and discuss with you all the jewelry options that are available in our store. They listen, offer advice, discuss credit options and treat you like a member of the Nasr Jewelers family. When you purchase from Nasr Jewelers at the Independence Mall, you do become a part of our family. We have over 50,000 happy customers and we know most on a first name basis.
It’s important to know the basics when selecting a diamond for either yourself or an important person in your life. Know your diamond’s four C’s – Carat, Clarity, Color and Cut and how to buy a certified diamond – the “fifth C”.
Carat
The diamond weight is measured in carats. A carat is 0.2 grams with 100 points per carat, so if a diamond is certified at 80 points, the carat weight is 0.80. Carat weight is a major factor in determining the cost of the diamond.
Diamond Clarity
A gemologist uses a G.I.A. scope to magnify the diamond to look for imperfections called inclusions. An “eye-clean" diamond is a diamond that has no inclusions visible to the unaided eye. Small inclusions in a diamond do not take away from the diamonds beauty, the ability for light to pass through the diamond or its durability. A diamond with no interior or exterior inclusions is the highest quality and light filters through the diamond unimpeded.
Diamond Color
The diamond color range goes from totally colorless to light yellow. Diamond color differences are very hard to distinguish. The diamonds are color graded from D (which is the most sought after) to Z which is the yellowest. Color and cut are the most important features of a diamond. Try not to compromise on color.
Diamond Cut
Only the diamond’s cut is within our control. A master diamond cutter transforms a rough diamond into a breathtaking gem. Even if a diamond has perfect color and clarity, a diamond with a poor cut will have reduced brilliance. Cut is not shape, i.e. pear, round, oval. Cut refers to the quality of the proportioning, polish, and symmetry of a diamond.
