How to Know Whether YOUR Web Site is Magnificent or Ridiculous…
In the Danish fairy tale, The Emperor’s New Clothes, the Emperor didn’t want to admit that his brand new clothes were invisible. As the legend goes, the clothes were supposedly only invisible to anyone who was “stupid”. He ends up strutting around the town square in his underwear all because his ego wouldn’t let him face the facts.
We all laugh and say how foolish the Emperor was.
But what’s worse is all the townspeople praised him for his beautiful new clothes!
The moral of the story is that it’s okay to admit our own flaws. Everybody has them! (And of course, the other moral is to make sure you look in the mirror at least once before you leave the house.)
Yet now we’re in 2008, and I STILL see foolish Emperors almost everywhere I look in the business world. Only instead of invisible clothes being the problem, it’s web sites.

Boy, that’s a serious wake-up call, isn’t it?
Everyone seems to think that everyone else’s web site is successful, but this shocking fact really reveals the truth.
Kind of like the little boy in the crowd who FINALLY said, “But he doesn’t have anything on at all, Papa!” Of course, everyone was thinking that, but no one had the guts to say it.
Most Business Owners are EMPERORS When it Comes to Their Web Sites
They say how wonderful their web sites are, but they IGNORE how poorly their web sites are actually performing.
Truthfully, I can see why it’s so hard to be honest with ourselves.
The web marketing “gurus” are constantly telling us how quick and easy it is to have a successful web site. The magazines and blogs are writing about overnight success stories. Everyone is talking to us about how well their web sites are doing.
Who wants to be the idiot who can’t see the invisible clothes? In other words, who wants to admit that they’re the one with the poorly performing web site?
Nobody does. So we go along with it all and tell ourselves that OUR web sites must be successful too.
But are they? Or do we just have a web site for the sake of having a web site?
The truth is, creating a successful marketing campaign is NOT easy, it’s NOT quick, and over 90% of businesses are NOT successful. Even the books “for dummies” can be confusing. So…
How Do You REALLY Know if Your Web Site is Magnificent or Ridiculous?
There’s one way (and only one way) to tell…
BY YOUR OWN RESULTS!
If your web site brings you significant, measurable, financial results, then it is “magnificent”.
However, if mentioning the word “results” makes your eyes bug open and your body freeze up like a six-year-old who just gotten caught with his fingers in the candy jar, then your web site definitely needs to be either improved or completely destroyed.
That may sound harsh, but my hope today is that I can be the little boy in the crowd who says what everyone else is already thinking…

A web site is a serious investment. Shouldn’t you get a positive return?
Not knowing your results isn’t an excuse either. You can’t just say that your web site “Gets the company name out there” and leave it at that. You need measurable specifics.
