As a leading cosmetic dermatology office treating a vast clientele south of Boston, South Shore Skin Center has begun utilizing innovative Fraxel Laser advanced technology in the treatment of a number of skin conditions.
Fraxel Laser treatments use the technology of a fractionated laser beam to improve the skin’s appearance. It is designed to target aging and damaged skin, and does so by stimulating the body’s natural production of new collagen and skin cells. This particular laser treatment is potent, yet effective and safe. Fraxel Laser treatments have been approved by the FDA to treat a variety of cosmetic conditions including acne, scarring, age and brown spots, melasma (mask of pregnancy), pigmentation and fine wrinkles. Best of all, healing time is quick and the treatment is safe for all skin types.
“Fraxel Laser breaks the laser beam into microbeams. Each microbeam is smaller than the size of a hair follicle. There is no downtime and healing is rapid after treatment. It is a safe, non-invasive treatment that improves texture, tone, scarring and pigmentation of the skin,” explains Dr. Richard Eisen, dermatologist and partner at South Shore Skin Center who has completed a course in Fraxel Laser at Mass General Hospital in Boston and undergone the procedure himself.
Treatment regimens vary according to the patient, but essentially, results can be obtained in three to five sessions. Sessions are typically spaced two to four weeks apart. Results are usually visible by the third month.
Sun exposure should be avoided during the process and during healing in the months following treatment sessions. Dr. Eisen recommends that sunscreen be worn every day to block out UVA/UVB rays that damage the skin.
“Having had Fraxel Laser treatments on my face, I can confirm that the actual treatment feels like a prickling sensation on the skin. It’s not painful, just slightly uncomfortable. We apply a topical anesthetic and many patients have said they don’t feel anything at all,” explains Dr. Eisen.
He continues, “After treatment, the skin feels and looks somewhat sunburned but this subsides within several days. Patients should moisturize their skin at least twice a day. They may also wear makeup to disguise the sunburn look if they desire it.”
In keeping up with the latest in advanced technology, the practice will soon incorporate the Fraxel re:pair™ Laser System in April. Fraxel re:pair is a CO2 laser that ablates the skin’s deep tissue. The FDA has approved it for treatment of pigmentation, redness, brown discoloration, wrinkles and resurfacing of soft tissue.
Dr. Eisen notes, “Unlike surgical procedures or traditional CO2 lasers, Fraxel re:pair treatment is one of the safest skin resurfacing methods now available.”
South Shore Skin Center has been using lasers for a number of years to enhance the skin’s appearance as well as treat a variety of skin conditions. Laser skin resurfacing brings out beautiful skin. Gentle YAG laser treatments erase spider veins in fewer treatments than with traditional laser therapy and healing time is quick. Tattoo removal is also done with a laser that delivers light pulses to the tattoo to break up the pigment. Laser Hair Removal is one of the most effective methods for long term reduction of unwanted hair.
The practice also offers a full range of affordable cosmetic and anti-aging services including Botox, wrinkle fillers, Microdermabrasion, QuickLift and chemical peels.
