Adult Day Health is a program that enables each participant to keep living independently and safely. Adult Day Health offers family caregivers the opportunity to keep working and have peace of mind that their loved one is in a safe and stimulating environment. Medical professionals are overwhelmingly endorsing and promoting these programs.
Adult Day Health – A Few Facts:
• More than 3,500 Adult Day Health Centers are currently operating in the United States providing care for 150,000 older Americans each day.
• The average age of the Adult Day Health Centers consumer is 72, and two-thirds of all participants are women.
• 50% of the participants using Adult Day Health services nationwide have some cognitive impairment and one third require nursing services at least weekly.
• 59% of the participants require assistance with two or more activities of daily living.
• Daily fees for services are almost always less than a home health visit and about half the cost of a skilled nursing facility.

Some things to consider during your visit to a Adult Day Health Center:
• Is the facility cheerful?
• Is the staff friendly?
• What services and activities do they offer?
• What is the cost?
• Do they offer transportation door-to-door?
• What are the credentials of the staff?
When is it a good time to place your loved one in a day center?
Daniel Kuhn, MSW and Author of, Alzheimer’s Early Stages: First Steps in Caring and Treatment, advocates Adult Day Health Centers when the individual:
• Appears unable to provide him or herself with any structure for daily activities.
• Is isolated from others for more than a few hours a day and misses companionship.
• Cannot be safely left alone at home.
• Lives with someone who works outside the home or needs regular time away from home for other reasons.
Brandon Woods: We Can Help
Adult Day Health is designed and developed to meet the increasing health care needs of the elderly. As experienced providers, we offer a team of professionals who are capable of meeting the medical, nursing, therapeutic, social, and recreational needs of each participant.
Centers differ in the degree of social activities and medical supervision they provide. Some programs are more social, offering an opportunity for elders to meet others and participate in recreational activities.
Brandon Woods of Dartmouth and Brandon Woods of New Bedford offer all of the above mentioned benefits and more importantly are medically oriented and offer therapies, medication management, and medical supervision. We also provide door to door transportation to and from Adult Day Health Center programs.
Both centers also offer specialized Alzheimer’s care, which includes specific activities and a therapeutic recreation program for those with memory impairments. By providing a safe environment for seniors with Alzheimer’s, without the stigma of separation from others, our participants enjoy a full day specifically designed for their needs. We can assist you with payment options for Adult Day Health services.
If you are currently responsible for the care of an elderly loved one, please take advantage of this highly successful program and call for a confidential screening. We would be delighted to arrange a visit for you.
