Ants seem to be everywhere during the spring and summer. Although some ants are active throughout the whole year, we just cannot avoid them when the weather is warmer. Thriving ant colonies are usually found on the exterior, under stones, stacked fire wood, etc. On the interior, we find ants on the floors, crawling up the window sills, in kitchen cabinets, etc.
Can ants be eliminated?
Yes. With a proper inspection of the interior and exterior of the building to locate nesting sites, and with a treatment to current/potential nesting sites, ants can be eliminated. Ants are looking for food and/or shelter. They feed on plant juices, insects and almost any kind of food found within the home.
What causes ants to sometimes reappear?
Ants, like many other insects, are attracted to moisture. Locations with moisture, shelter and with a food source nearby are the perfect nesting places for ants.
Be aware of an increase in ants if the following occurs:
Landscaping
Landscaping disturbs the soil causing ants to forage around.
Mulch
The delivery of new mulch may have ants present upon delivery.
Excess moisture
Excess moisture caused from standing water from poorly operating downspouts or overflowing gutters, leaking pipes or faucets, etc.
