Help Your Carpets Last 20 Years or More!

Home & Garden

By Scott Otis

You’ve spent a lot of money on your carpet and that means that you want it to last for a long, long time.  But with everyday traffic, kids, pets, and just life, sometimes that seems easier said than done.

Here are a few quick and simple tips and tricks to keep your carpet in the best shape possible.

Always remove shoes upon entering your home.

Have a place by the door where outdoor shoes are stored, and keep a basket of slip-pers nearby.  Keeping outdoor dirt off your carpet is one of the best ways to pre-serve its life.

Place a mat at the inside and outside of every carpeted entryway, and train every-one in your household to use it!

Don’t forget mats in the interior of your home between hard surfaces and your carpet, and ask family members and friends to wipe their bare or slippered-feet on them.  Even bare feet can pick up dirt and debris from hard surfaces and deposit them on your carpet.

Vacuum at least once a week, even if your carpets don’t appear dirty.

Why do you need to vacuum if your carpets don’t look dirty, you're wondering?  Well, you want to remove all the dirt and debris that is hiding deep within your carpet fibers. These small but dangerous particles will scratch your carpet fibers and make your carpet look old way before its time.  If you have kids or pets, vacuum at least twice a week to keep dirt and debris at bay.
