Laser Technologies Zap Unwanted Hair, Unsightly Veins and More

Swimsuit season will be here before we know it. Get rid of unwanted hair, zap those spider veins and eliminate common skin disorders with the best laser technologies available today that will help you look your best.  We’ve outlined several affordable, highly effective laser treatments that you should start thinking about now to get you ready for the warmer weather.

Throw away those razors and forego the wax.  Laser hair removal provides a safe, fast and extremely effective method for long-term reduction of unwanted hair.  Laser hair removal works by heating the pigment present in the hair follicle. Active hair growth is eliminated when the pigment at the base of the hair follicle absorbs the light emitted by the lasers.  Hair removal sessions may last from a few minutes up to an hour depending on the size of the area being treated. Because lasers treat hair in active growth phase, multiple treatments are required.

The most effective lasers for removing unwanted hair for both light and dark skinned patients are known as GentleLASE and GentleYAG.  The exact laser used will depend on the color of the hair to be removed.

The benefits of laser hair removal are numerous:

• Saves time.  There’s no need to shave, wax, tweeze or use other hair removal methods ever again.

• Laser hair removal is a permanent solution for getting rid of unwanted hair.

• In general, the overall cost is lower than the alternative electrolysis or waxing repeatedly.

Those Dreaded Spider Veins

Worried about unsightly spider veins?  In addition to hair removal, Gentle YAG effectively treats spider veins in one to three sessions.  Gentle YAG is ideal for treating spider veins on the legs, where sclerotherapy was previously the only option available.  With Gentle YAG, healing times are quicker; there is little discoloration at the treatment site and fewer treatments are needed than with traditional laser therapy.  Treatment of spider veins with Gentle YAG can even be performed during the summer months on darker and tanned skin because the laser light is not absorbed by the pigment in the skin.

Cure for Common Skin Disorders

One of the newest laser treatments available specifically treats the skin disorders of persistent psoriasis (thick, red scaly patches on the skin) and vitiligo (pigmentation changes in the skin). The XTRAC Excimer Laser is a hand-held laser that we have been utilizing at our offices in the treatment of stubborn psoriasis and vitiligo.  The XTRAC laser delivers an intense beam of focused laser light to the affected area, leaving the surrounding healthy tissue alone.  This particular laser treatment is highly effective and is typically used on less than 10 percent of the body area.

The benefits of using the XTRAC laser include:

• An effective clearing of the skin in 10 or fewer sessions

• Long lasting relief for months

• Treatment sessions that last only a few minutes.

• Patients do not need to follow a special skin care regimen or use special creams following treatment.

An added benefit of XTRAC laser treatments is the fact that these treatments are considered medical treatments and are therefore covered by most major medical insurance companies.

The use of laser technologies for cosmetic purposes has grown exponentially over the past few years and for good reason.  Healing times are quicker; fewer treatments are typically required and the results are exceptional.

A very satisfying part of these procedures is the confidence and glow people get after they start feeling better about themselves.
