As Valentine’s Day approaches and those heart shaped boxes of chocolate appear in the stores, we are reminded of those people in our lives who we love. That love, whether it is romantic or the love of our families and friends, is a great thing and cannot be denied.
But did you know that research indicates that having love in one’s life is the best predictor of good health; more powerful than any health habit including diet, exercise, non-smoking etc.? In fact, all systems of the human body are influenced by love, the practice of compassion and our connectedness to one another. Lovingkindness meditation is a practice of becoming a more unconditionally loving person. We become what we focus on. Focusing on love brings more of it to us and our bodies will respond with better health.
Dr. Johnson teaches an on-going Mind Body Medicine series at Healthtrax in Dartmouth and can bring these workshops to your organization upon request. Go to her website cfmbh.com for more information.
