Getting Your Yearly Flu Shot is a Healthy Return on Investment Stay Informed and Immunized with PharmaHealth Pharmacy!
It’s almost flu season, and its time to start preparing yourself to avoid catching the flu! While the H1N1 pandemic (Swine Flu) has been a great cause for concern in the past few months, it is still very important to make sure you receive your “seasonal” influenza vaccine this year.
Who is At Risk?
The “seasonal” flu is a contagious disease, caused by the influenza virus, which is spread by coughing, sneezing or nasal secretions and can affect anyone at any age. For most people, the flu may last only a few days, but for those with certain health conditions, they can become much sicker. Those experiencing the flu will have symptoms including:
Fever
Cough
Sore throat
Headache
Chills
Muscle aches
Fatigue
Young children, elderly and people of any age with chronic diseases (that can put them at higher risk of potentially dangerous complications from the flu) have the highest rates of infection. Children 6 months and older, adults over 50, women who could be pregnant during flu season, people with long-term health problems (heart, liver, lung or kidney disease, asthma, diabetes, etc), people with weakened immune systems and those working or living in crowded conditions should consider receiving their flu shots.
Free flu shots will be given to adults covered by Medicare Part B health insurance. Please make sure to bring your Red, White & Blue Medicare card with you! For those not covered by Medicare, you can still get a flu shot at PharmaHealth, by paying with cash, check or charge.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, on average, 226,000 people are hospitalized every year because of influenza and 36,000 die – mostly elderly.
