Suffering from low back pain? You’re not alone -- far from it. 80-90% of all adults will suffer with low back pain some time in their life, while at any given time; 20-30% of the adult population is suffering from low back pain. For people under the age of 45, it has become the leading cause of disability and the second leading cause of visits to the doctors’ offices. All of this has lead to an annual cost of $20-$75 billion in the U.S. alone.
One of the biggest “accepted” myths about back pain is that it goes away all by itself, without any treatment. And most doctors believe the claim that 90% of all episodes of low back pain will resolve within one month. But a May 1998 study in the British Medical Journal that followed the progress of a widespread sample of back pain patients’ conditions 12 months after their initial medical consultation, found that only 1 out of 4 patients saw their pain resolved. Sadly, 3 out of 4 continued to suffer.
Where Do You Fall in this Range?
If you’re like many patients we’ve seen over the years, you’ve probably tried several prescribed remedies to help ease your chronic pain. These may include bed rest, medication, chiropractic, acupuncture, physical therapy or injections. Like so many others, you may be frustrated and have come to the realization that you may just have to learn to live with the pain. (Even your family doctor may say those exact words to you.) After trying and failing with everything else, perhaps you’re even considering surgery as a last attempt to end your suffering.
There is Another Option - Proven Non-Surgical Treatment for Back Pain.
Spinal Decompression Therapy is a non-surgical therapy proven to treat back pain and sciatica caused by bulging, herniated, and degenerative discs, facet syndrome, and spinal stenosis.
Spinal Decompression, not to be confused with traction, gently lengthens and decompresses the spine, creating a negative pressure within the disc. This negative pressure creates a vacuum that not only takes pressure off pinched nerves, but helps to pull the disc material back into place. In other words, the disc is given a chance to heal and therefore function normally.
MRI studies taken before and after treatment show that herniated discs may be repositioned and re-hydrated using this technology.
Studies have shown positive results for many patients.
Clinical studies have shown Decompression Therapy to be extremely effective in treating back pain. In a recent study published in Orthopedic Technology Review, Decompression Therapy was shown to be 86% effective in treating herniated and degenerative discs. Not only that, but another study published in Anesthesiology News showed that after 4 years, over 91 % remained pain free.
In many cases, I have found that conservative treatment that includes non-surgical spinal decompression is better and safer than surgery. Since I began using this technology, I have performed hundreds of treatments on patients who thought there was no hope. Most have tried everything from medications to surgery. Thanks to this technology, I have been able to help patients quickly without the risks or side effects of surgery.
What can I expect during the course of treatment?
Most patients find this therapy quite comfortable and relaxing. During an average 30-minute session, most patients experience a gentle stretch in the lumbar spine and tend to fall asleep. Adjunctive therapies and exercises are typically performed to support the benefits of spinal decompression therapy and improve patient outcomes.
