Save Money with Customized Jewelry

In this edition I am going to teach you how to have a custom piece of jewelry made and how to save money doing it. A special custom piece can be made for a variety of different occasions e.g. anniversaries, birthdays, weddings, holidays, or just a special gift for someone or yourself. Naturally, the first step is to realize the concept and design you would like to have created. Most people will find photos of jewelry and make changes to the design and some will draw a sketch of their idea on paper. Whatever you decide to do, you will then need to find a jeweler who custom designs jewelry and can make your idea in to a real piece of jewelry.
I recommend using an in-house jeweler instead of a big chain store who will end up sending your idea to someone else to have it made. The person you actually speak with and explain what you are looking to create should be the same person who creates your piece. These craftsmen are hard to find and are very rare. Right away most people think creating a custom piece will cost a lot of money. Well, I’m going to offer you a very simple solution to end that misconception. If you collect all your scrap and/or old jewelry and gemstones, you can have your piece made and save a lot of money using the materials you already own. By using these materials for the actual piece or for trade of other materials, your cost will boil down to labor depending on the piece you would like to have created.
This is where the designer comes into play and the concept can be realized for much less than one would expect and sometimes it’s possible for the piece to be made with no money out of your pocket at all. So think of all those broken or old pieces of jewelry you never wear anymore and imagine transforming them into new and exciting pieces you can use or give to someone as a very special gift.
