Resources to Help Your Business

We’ve all heard the old adage that “behind every great man there’s a great woman.” With increasing frequency, though, that phrase could just as easily say “behind every great company is a great woman.” In Massachusetts, women-owned businesses are playing a tremendous role in the state economy, generating $23.3 billion in revenues and accounting for more than 28 percent of the state’s companies, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Keep in mind, successful business owners usually have a great network of resources behind them — learning from the success, and mistakes, of others. If you’re starting a business, or want advice on how to take your company to the next level, there are several excellent resources on the SouthCoast you can explore.

•    The New Bedford Chamber of Commerce holds the annual SouthCoast Women's Forum. Featuring networking opportunities, an educational luncheon, and interactive workshops, it’s designed to promote women-owned businesses. This year it is going to be on April 29th at Hawthorne Country Club in Dartmouth, MA. For details, email them at info@newbedfordchamber.com.

•    Networking is important for any business owner, and the Downtown Women's Club/SouthCoast MA is the local chapter of the national group that brings professional women together to build relationships and have fun. The SouthCoast chapter is lead by Candice Cabe of The Creative Edge (info@the-CreativeEdge.com).

•    The Center for Women & Enterprise (CWE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women start and grow their own businesses. Offering education, training, technical assistance, and women's business enterprise certification, the CWE provides scholarships for its services in order to serve all women, regardless of their ability to pay. For more information, call the Providence, RI office at 401-277-0800.
