What Every Home Owner Should Know

Home & Garden

By Dan Galvin

I was speaking at a small business conference last year in Las Vegas regarding power washing, approximately fifteen minutes into my talk a man raised his hand and asked me, “what is power washing”?

I was surprised  he did not know what power washing was, so I asked the audience how many others did not know what power washing was and to my surprise 40% of the audience did NOT know what power washing was!

The technical description according to encyclopedia.com is: Power washing, also called steam cleaning (230 degrees F or higher), water jetting, or pressure washing; any process or system using pressurized water (1000-5000 psi) for cleaning, demolition, paint and grime removal, and other applications...

So the next question should be:  “Well how does this help me?

There are several benefits to power washing and here are three common ones.

# 1 - Curb Appeal Can Add Value to Your Home

Power washing removes the green slimy mold and the unsightly black mildew on home siding (vinyl, painted, clap board and cedar shingles), roof, fences, walkways, driveway, pool skirt, patio and decks.

After a long day at work, do you ever pull into your driveway, look at your house and go ewe, ugh?  East Coast Powerwashing removes the UGH feeling, and replaces it with the contented AHH feeling!  To me, nothing is sweeter, than pulling into your driveway and seeing your house and just feeling AHH.  You should be proud of your home.

You will be amazed at how many people cancel their paint jobs after their house was power washed, saving them thousands of dollars.  While we are talking about money, those of you selling your homes will find that power washing will also increase the sales value of your property.  In fact, according to the National Association of Real Estate Appraisers, “a good first appearance on a home can add as much as 5 to 10 percent to the value of the home.”  That’s making over 10 to 20 times the return on your investment of power washing.

# 2 - Preventive Maintenance

Although not the top reason for people to call us, it is one of the biggest benefits of power washing.   We have found that most people like to live a worry free life and having your home on a regularly scheduled maintenance program, besides giving you that ahh feeling, will also extend the life of your home’s siding, fences, walkways, and especially your deck.  When your home is cleaned by East Coast Powerwashing you will get at least two years out of one of our cleanings.   We guarantee your home against mold and mildew for one year because we know it will last for two years and sometimes even longer.  You will be hard pressed to find another power washing company that offers that.

Like our grandmothers use to say “A stitch in time saves nine.”

# 3 - Health and Safety

Recently the prevalence of mold and mildew has been in the forefront of the nightly news and medical journals.  As we gleaned from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and her aftermath, the total destruction and loss of property and the effect on people’s health due to the mold and mildew that grew rampant in the aftermath was crippling.

Just recently the residents on the South Shore witnessed the devastation along the coastal towns from the Blizzard of 2010.  Sadly, I can assure you that those unfortunate homeowners, whose homes were flooded, will have issues with mold unless serious remediation is done.

Mold is not just a byproduct of a flood, but it is an actual living spore all around us.    If you have a child, grandchild or family member that has respiratory illness, the last thing you want is to have them exposed to mold and mildew.

Some very easy ways to keep your family and home safe from mold and mildew is to keep it clean.  To protect the inside of your home, always be cautious of standing water, leaks, and condensation.  When you see water, clean it as quickly as possible.  If you are unable to do it yourself, enlist the help of a service provider.  To protect the outside of your home, have the exterior of your home power washed.  Power washing actually uses the pressure of the water, along with the special detergents to remove the dirt, mold and mildew.
