Radiant, Healthy Skin

Health & Wellness

By Richard Eisen, M.D. and Ramzi Saad, M.D.

Do you have clear, radiant and healthy skin?  Beautiful skin is no accident.  It requires daily attention to ensure that it remains in tip-tip shape.

There are a number of factors that can affect the appearance and condition of the skin.  Chlorinated pool or tap water will dehydrate the skin.  UVA/UVB exposure from the sun or tanning booths damages the skin, alters DNA and reduces elasticity.  A loss of elasticity also comes with aging.  These factors, as well as simple neglect of the skin, will result in skin that is dull, dry, flaky, excessively oily and/or prone to breakouts.

So how do you get glowing skin?  Daily maintenance and a little extra TLC.

Gently cleanse

Be sure to wash with a gentle cleanser or very mild soap.  Harsh scrubbing is not good for your skin.  Using strong cleansers, toners or soaps are not necessary and may actually contribute to skin dehydration.

Protect, moisturize and nourish

Because exposure to UVA/UVB rays damages skin cells and can “age” the skin, it's imperative that you protect your skin from this exposure every day with a sunscreen containing a minimum SPF 30.

Dry skin, whether it's caused by chlorinated water, sun exposure, aging, neglect or all of these factors, will increase the appearance of lines and make you look older.  It can also exacerbate skin conditions such as eczema, which may require steroid creams to heal it.  Moisturize the skin on your face and body every day.

Preventative antioxidant treatments such as SkinMedica Vitamin C+E Complex and SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic or Phloretin CF, are topical treatments that nourish and better protect your skin from free radicals and UVA/UVB damage when used daily in conjunction with moisturizer and sunscreen.

Pamper

To “refresh” your skin, remove dead and dry skin cells by occasionally exfoliating your skin.  Exfoliation is somewhat similar to Microdermabrasion.  At home, you can use a washcloth or a loofah with cleanser on it to gently remove old cells.

For a more thorough and luxurious exfoliating and moisturizing treatment, consider having a deep cleansing facial, such as South Shore Skin Center and Spa's Signature Facial or Organic Exfoliating Facial which deep cleans pores, exfoliates and hydrates your skin.  Or, our Medical Facial, which uses medical grade products to deeply treat and hydrate the skin.

Give a little TLC to the skin on your body by indulging in our Hydration Wrap, where vitamin enriched exotic oils are absorbed into the deepest layers of your skin to strengthen, soften and hydrate your skin.  Or, opt for our Organic Sugar Glow body treatment, which is coconut milk infused with organic honey combined with raw cane sugar to cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize your skin naturally.

Taking care of your skin every day is the key to gorgeous, healthy skin.   Your South Shore Skin Center and Spa providers can advise you on how to get and keep your skin healthy so you will look your best at any age.
