Is Weight Loss Surgery Right for You?

Rayford Kruger, MD, FACS, Bariatric Surgeon & Center of Excellence Surgeon who serves as the Director of Bariatric Surgery at Tobey Hospital, along with his team at the Southcoast Center for Weight Loss in Wareham, presents the “Is Weight Loss Surgery Right for You?” seminar on a regular basis throughout the South Coast as well as Plymouth and Hyannis.
Anyone who has tried diets and exercise, but is still gaining weight, is invited to learn more about weight loss surgery at Southcoast at one of these free seminars. A surgeon from the Southcoast Center for Weight Loss will discuss the process of weight loss surgery at Southcoast, describe the health benefits that may be realized by undergoing surgery, and provide information about who is a candidate.
“Weight loss surgery is a commitment for life and should not be entered upon lightly. We ask that all patients considering weight loss surgery to join us for this informational evening outlining the benefits, qualifications and risks associated with morbid obesity,” said Dr. Kruger, who performs the surgery with members of a weight loss surgery team at the Southcoast Center for Weight Loss, located at 100 Rosebrook Way in Wareham. Gastric bypass surgery is known to help improve the health and quality of life of patients who are obese. Health benefits of weight loss surgery include decreased blood pressure and cholesterol, resolution of type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea, lower mortality rate, and fewer hospitalizations and outpatient physician visits.
The Southcoast Center for Weight Loss is a community-based program designed to incorporate a thorough approach to weight loss surgery utilizing a team comprised of dietitians, psychologists, nurses and surgeons to provide a safe and comprehensive surgical weight loss program. From pre-op consultations to post-op support groups for life, the team is dedicated to supporting patients’ long-term weight loss goals.
The program far exceeds national quality standards. In fact, Southcoast is designated as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) for its demonstrated track record of consistent, favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery.
To earn a Center of Excellence designation, Tobey Hospital underwent a series of site inspections during which all aspects of the program’s surgical processes were closely examined and data on health outcomes was collected. Tobey Hospital and other centers receiving the Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence designation agree to continue to share information on clinical pathways, protocols and outcomes data. To date, more than 2,400 patients have benefitted from the program, which includes laparoscopic gastric bypass, adjustable gastric band and sleeve gastrectomy surgeries.
