By Uma Rajagopal
We all live in a fast-paced world where everything is constantly on the go -- our lives, our jobs, our families, and our activities. We all want everything and we want it yesterday.
Because we are always in a hurry, sometimes we forget that the people we service may not be able to move with the same pace we are used to. Some of us may not even be aware of how fast we move. This can sometimes result in upsetting or confusing our patients and can put added stress on the patients when we move too quickly.
We need to slow down and allow our patients to move at their own pace, a pace that is comfortable to them. This allows the patient to understand and communicate with us more easily and perhaps by slowing our own pace we may learn something that we may have overlooked in haste.
Many of our patients are from another time, where things were done differently. Perhaps a longer conversation with the patient could result in some vital information that will contribute to the patient’s plan of care. Whatever our approach is, we need to respect our patients and give them the extra time if that is what they need because we try to do our best to maintain the patient’s quality of life and perhaps improve it.
Rehab at Home is devoted to taking a personalized approach when servicing our patients. We take pride in always trying to “do the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason”.
