What's Hot In the World Of Beauty
The experts at Verona Salons in Plymouth and Weymouth weigh in on what’s hot in the world of beauty…
Red Carpet Update
The Oscars and Golden Globes are a great indicator of trends in fashion, hair and makeup. This year we saw a dramatic return to simplicity. Tight, complicated hairdos were replaced by long, soft styles, loose tumbling curls and updos that were half up and half down. Salon owner Glenn Gonsalves explains, “Hair styles this year are softer and more natural looking. Bobs are still very popular, but not that angular, asymmetrical version of the past. We create movement and softness by adding long layers. Hair color this year is richer, more natural.”
Hair Color
Highlights and lowlights are still the most requested color service today. However, that chunky, stripy look that was so popular in the past few years has been replaced by more natural, dimensional shading. Lindsay Pennucci, a Stylist and colorist at Verona Salon in Plymouth adds, “What clients want today is to have richer, deeper, more natural hair color. We create that dimensional look by highlighting and low lighting the hair with tones that complement each other instead of creating a stark contrast”.
Simplify by Retexurizing
Imagine throwing away your flat iron. Imagine having more time in the morning to prepare yourself for your day instead of wrestling with unmanageable hair. Clients who want to simplify their hair styling regimen have turned to retexturizing services to do just that. Glenn Gonsalves explains, “Retexturizing services have replaced straighteners as a way to control bulky, frizzy hair. Retexturizers won’t make your hair bone-straight, but they will take out the majority of the volume and frizziness, making hair easier to style and in less time. While Verona does offer complete, long term straightening services, the majority of our clients opt for a retexturizing process called Extenso.” Created by a L’Oreal professional in Paris, Extenso is a luxury retexturizing system that leaves hair smoother, well conditioned and without bulk and frizz. Helena Maguire of Plymouth says, “I love how my hair feels and looks since having an Extenso. It is so easy to take care of, I love it.”
Makeup
Simplicity is also the key word in makeup. Classic colors and a “less is more” approach to application create a vibrant, healthy glow without looking over done. Allison Longden, Esthetician and makeup artist at Verona Salon in Plymouth states, “People are busy; they don’t have a lot of time to apply makeup. My clients are amazed at what a difference they can make in their appearance by doing just a few simple things. We teach our clients how to focus on their one or two strongest features. By doing so they can create a beautiful look with very little effort.” Verona Salons use and sell Sorme treatment makeup. Salon Owner Jeffrey Hetrick explains, “What we love about Sorme is not only the beautiful colors and easy application, but also the treatment component of the line. Sorme is infused with vitamins, antioxidants and alpha hydroxy acids which nourish and rejuvenate your skin.”
Skincare
Taking care of your skin is now more important than ever. Factors such as environment, pollution, smoking and poor diet are taking a terrible toll on our skin. While skincare companies all make different claims, the one thing that they agree on is the importance of wearing a sun block. The damage done to your skin by ultraviolet rays can range from premature aging to, and, in some cases, skin cancer. Skin products that contain sun block such as SkinCeuticals physical defense or Dermalogica’s sheer moist help protect your skin from these harmful rays. To help correct the damage done by these factors, Verona Salon uses and sells the full line of antioxidant serums by SkinCeuticals. Jeffrey Hetrick adds, “CE Ferulic serum by SkinCeuticals is one of our best sellers and is a powerful ally in the fight against sun damage.”
